Poem – The fear of Darkness

The light flees

As the darkness charges in

It’s pitch black inside

My eyes are but needless luggage

Am I alone? I feel so

Evil roams in the night they say

Fear, creeps into my thoughts

It engulfs my mind

I try to run from it, but I cannot see

I shiver, it is cold

What gives the darkness its power?

Why do I fear it?

How can it chase away the light?

And just then, I see an ember in the corner

Its weak glow, racing to my eyes, unbothered by the mighty darkness

I realise, darkness doesn’t chase the light, it simply is the absence of light, a scavenger, it is nothingness.

It’s only power, is that I fear it

How then can darkness be evil, how can it frighten me?

When it itself, does not exist
